Through the winter management agreement, the linear park is in charge of maintaining the section and patrolling certain sectors. The Rivière-du-Nord, Laurentides and Pays-d’en-Haut RCMs have given this mandate and financial resources to the P’tit Train du Nord corporation. This agreement covers only the Saint-Jérôme to Sainte-Agathe sector (km 4.4 to km 46.4).

Yes, as soon as conditions and accumulations allow for maintenance. When the weather is unfavourable, for safety reasons we sometimes have to close certain sections for skiing, walking and fatbikes*. Other sections are reserved exclusively for snowmobiles.

Yes, access to the park is free in winter and summer. However, to maintain, patrol and manage the park, the organisation is always looking for funds to maintain and improve this beautiful infrastructure.

You can find out about trail conditions for skiing, walking and fat biking in the Mont-Blanc, Mont-Tremblant and La Conception sectors by contacting these towns.

For the Saint-Jérôme sector (from km 0 to 4.4), contact the town of Saint-Jérôme, which is responsible for snow clearance and grooming.

For sectors further south (Mirabel, Blainville, Sainte-Thérèse, Rosemère, Lorraine, Bois-des-Filon), the towns carry out snow ploughing on certain sections.

Grooming operations are planned on the basis of a number of factors, including weather conditions, budget, human resources and visitor numbers. Other factors are also taken into consideration, such as :

the base of the snow (firm or soft);

the type of accumulation received (powdery or wet snow, ice, hail, rain, etc.);

weather conditions and forecasts. 

Once the elements have been identified, the team analyses the combination of elements and decides whether it makes sense to undertake maintenance and, if so, which measures will give the best results. As a result, trails may not be groomed :

when the weather is too warm; or

when the base is too thin (which could lead to mechanical damage);

when there is a risk of the groomer sinking into the water;

when the trails are cluttered with branches or trees. 

The aim is to provide good skiing conditions for as long as possible. To achieve this, we sometimes have to postpone maintenance in order to obtain satisfactory results in the long term. 

For example :

After rain, we wait for it to cool down before working on the snow.

In icy conditions, we don’t take the machinery out.

When it’s very cold, we avoid going out to limit the mechanical breakdowns associated with the longest grooming time.

There is no grooming during a major storm. The return to normal may be delayed after the storm.

On windy or snowy days, some or all of the trails may be covered in snow. This may happen even if the maintenance was duly carried out before the trails opened.

We keep maintenance to a minimum during opening hours for the obvious reason of avoiding skier-tractor accidents.

Mechanical damage to equipment 

The trails are still in good conditions.

Depending on the conditions, the trails are groomed:

Three or four times a week in the north (from km 14 at the Prévost train station to km 46.4 at the Parc Préfontaine car park in Ste-Agathe)

Twice a week for the south (from km 14 at the Prévost train station to km 4.4 at 116e avenue in Saint-Jérôme)

The track is patrolled every weekend. In addition, a team of around 15 volunteer patrollers cover the track at random throughout the season.

The role of the patrollers is to:

administering first aid;

apply the park’s emergency procedure;

provide advice and tourist information;

make visitors aware of the code of ethics.

For everyone’s safety, dogs are not allowed on the track, except for assistance dogs, which are always welcome. Any other type of pet is also not allowed.

Skijoring and dog sledding are also prohibited.

For emergencies, call 911.

Each kilometre marking post is georeferenced with the various emergency services in the area. When you call, give the number of the nearest kilometre post. Also, on each kilometre post, you’ll find a sign indicating the town where you are, the nearest street crossings to the north and south and a geolocation point.

Take a small first-aid kit with you. In winter, add an insulated blanket and warm clothes.

If you’re going out on your own, always tell a relative or a friend about your outing.

FOR CYCLISTS

• We ask cyclists to announce their overtaking either with a bell or verbally, in a courteous and considerate manner.
• Respect the 22 km/hour limit and the 10 km/hour limit when approaching towns and villages, and make careful manoeuvres.
• At street crossings, cyclists do not have the right of way. You must stop and check before crossing. Some crossings give priority to pedestrians (or to cyclists on foot beside the bike).
• Wearing a helmet is strongly recommended
• Electrically-assisted bicycles are permitted if they are equipped with functional pedals, in accordance with the highway safety code. EABs must travel at a maximum speed of 22km/hour in general, and 10km/hour in urban areas.

WALKERS/RUNNERS

• Walkers and runners must ride on the right, in the same direction as cyclists.
• Avoid headphones! To hear bicycles clearly, it’s important to listen actively to ambient noise.

ALL USERS

• Ride in single file
• In-line skating and skateboarding are permitted, provided you keep to the right side of the track and do not swerve.
• Roller skiing is permitted before 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m.
• Always clear the trail when stopping. Move to the side in the grassy area.
• Don’t throw anything on the ground and take your garbage with you to keep the area clean.
• Vehicles for people with reduced mobility must travel at a maximum speed of 22 km/hour and 10 km/hour in urban areas.

NOT AUTHORIZED ON THE P’TIT TRAIN DU NORD

• Backcountry camping is prohibited along the trail.
• Pets are not allowed, except for guide and assistance dogs.
• Motorized vehicles are not permitted on the trail, except for authorized maintenance vehicles.
• Electric scooters are not permitted on cycle paths, in accordance with the Highway Safety Code.
• Unauthorized sales and solicitation are prohibited
• Events and activities may not take place without prior authorization
